Sari Bodi

My name is always mispronounced so I pretty much answer to anything
that vaguely resembles it. The name “Sari” is Hungarian, like my Dad.
It’s pronounced “sha-ree.” In Hungarian the letter “s” is pronounced “sh.”
I give that explanation at least 365 times a year. If I l lived in Hungary,
I wouldn’t have to. But I don’t. I live in Connecticut.
(Although I’ve been to Hungary. Great food!)

My Writing

This is my first novel. But I’ve written all sorts of other things. Most writers of novels have. It’s like if you’re learning to be a soccer player. When you’re in kindergarten, they put you out on the field with five other kids, and they set the goal posts really close together. Then as you get older, they move the goal posts further apart and you play with more kids and for longer periods of time. And then before you know it, you’re on the Women’s U.S. Olympic team, beating China. (Go Mia Hamm!) By the way, I used to be a soccer player on a team called the Budweiser Eagles in New York City.

The Writing List

In case you’re interested, here are some of the things I’ve written: (if not interested, skip to the next part or go watch “The Suite Life of Zack and Cody.”) Short stories in Seventeen magazine (sold to), Mslexia (British magazine), and Weston magazine; essays in the Village Voice, Daily News, Bride’s magazine; wrote comedy sketches for BBC Radio (in London). I also wrote and acted in a sketch comedy show on cable TV in New York City. I write plays, some performed off-Broadway and at Theatre Artists Workshop in Connecticut, and by high school students around the country. I worked as the literary manager for the Long Wharf Theatre in New Haven, Connecticut and I taught playwriting in a high school specializing in the arts. (kind of like the school from “Fame”).

My Family

They’re at school right now, but I have two kids, and a husband at work. And a dog sleeping on the couch, even though he’s not supposed to. My daughter, Ming is ten and she sings and draws manga comics. Luke is eight, and he plays baseball. We’re all going to China and Korea this summer so Ming and Luke can see where they came from. I may be more excited than they are, but that’s probably because I’m the one planning the trip so I’m reading about all the exciting places we’re going to see.
